Profit/Loss Distribution
For businesses with multiple owners, shareholders, or partners, distributing the net profit (or loss) accurately at the end of a fiscal period is critical. The Profit/Loss Distribution report tracks these equity allocations.
Distribution History
Whenever a Fiscal Period is officially closed (covered in Feature 11), Agora can automatically distribute the period's net profit across the defined partner accounts based on their ownership percentages. This report tracks that history.
Report Details:
- Partner Allocation: Shows exactly how much of the total profit or loss was allocated to each specific Partner's equity account.
- Historical Tracking: Filter by specific Fiscal Periods to see how distributions fluctuated across different quarters or years.
- Distribution Type: Clearly distinguishes whether a period resulted in a Profit distribution (increasing equity) or a Loss distribution (decreasing equity).
Real-World Use Cases
- Partner Tax Packets: At year-end, generating a filtered report for "Partner A" showing their exact profit distributions for all 12 months, which they can use to file their personal K-1 tax returns.
- Dispute Resolution: Providing a definitive historical record to partners showing exactly how a previous quarter's unexpected loss was divided among their capital accounts based on their ownership percentages.
- Dividend Planning: Reviewing historical profit distributions to determine if the business can afford to authorize an out-of-cycle cash dividend draw for the owners.
Ensure transparent and accurate equity management with the Profit/Loss Distribution report.
