Clicking the Guide button opens the "PRODUCT TYPES & VARIANTS GUIDE", explaining the different ways to configure items.
Tracking Types
The system supports two primary tracking methods, each which can be configured With Variants or Without Variants:
-
Per Item (Serialized):
- With Variants: Track each individual unit with unique serial numbers across different models/colors (e.g., iPhone 13 in 128GB Black). You MUST provide serial numbers (IMEI) for each unit.
- Without Variants: Track each individual unit with unique serial numbers for a single model (e.g., Samsung Galaxy A14). The system auto-creates a "Default" variant, but you still MUST provide serial numbers.
-
By Quantity (Bulk):
- With Variants: Track products by count (pieces) where you don't need serial numbers but have different sizes or colors (e.g., T-Shirts). No serial numbers are needed, and stock increases/decreases by quantity per variant.
- Without Variants: Track simple products by count (e.g., USB Cables). A "Default" variant is auto-created, and you simply enter quantities without serial numbers.
Common Use Cases
- High-Value/Trackable Items (Serialized): Ideal for electronics (like iPhones or generators) or unique jewelry pieces where every single unit requires its own serial number (IMEI) for warranty and tracking purposes.
- Apparel & Differentiated Goods (Bulk with Variants): Best suited for merchandise like T-Shirts, shoes, or phone chargers where items come in different sizes, colors, or specifications, but individual serial tracking per unit isn't required.
- Simple Commodities (Bulk without Variants): Perfect for uniform, generic items such as USB cables, basic screen protectors, or identical batteries where you only need to know the total count in stock.
Real-World Use Cases
- Stock Verification: A cashier quickly searching the product database to confirm if a specific requested item is available in the backroom.
- Pricing Updates: An administrator executing a bulk update on the selling prices of an entire product line ahead of a new season.
