Product Categories
Organize your inventory by creating logical product categories.
01 Categories Dashboard
The Categories tab within "Products & Variants" provides a structured list of all category classifications in your system.
Key Actions
- Search: Use the "Search categories..." bar to quickly find specific groups.
- Table View: The grid displays "Category Name", the associated "Product Count", and "Actions" (edit or delete).
- Column Customization: Click the "Columns" button to toggle visibility for additional fields like "# (Serial Number)", "Description", and "ID Prefix".
02 Creating a Category
Click the + Create Category button to open the creation modal.
Required Fields
- Category Name: Enter the mandatory name for your category (e.g., "24K Gold").
- Description: Provide an optional description explaining what this category includes.
- Default ID Prefix: Optionally select or generate a default ID prefix for products created within this category.
Once filled, click Create Category.
Why Use Categories?
- Logical Grouping: Efficiently organize a vast, diverse inventory into easily navigable sections (e.g., separating "24K Gold", "18K Gold", or "Electronics").
- Prefix Automation: By setting a "Default ID Prefix" (like
GLD-for gold items), the system will automatically append this to newly created products within the category, ensuring your internal ID tracking remains structured and consistent.
Real-World Use Cases
- Targeted Promotions: Grouping all winter apparel into a "Winter Collection" category to easily apply a blanket 20% discount across all those items during a spring clearance sale.
- Menu Organization: Structuring a restaurant's POS system by categorizing items into "Appetizers," "Mains," and "Beverages" for faster cashier navigation.
03 Filtering Categories
After creation, your category appears in the main table.
- Active Search: Typing in the search bar (e.g., "24") filters the table instantly.
- Sorting: You can click the "Category Name" column header to sort ascending or descending.
- Pagination: Manage large lists using the pagination controls at the bottom right.
